  • State winners to have $50 donated in their name.
Greensboro, NC, USA, February 24, 2010 —Syngenta today announced that Avicta® Complete Corn nematicide/insecticide/fungicide seed treatment combination and Quilt Xcel™ fungicide are sponsors of the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) 2010 National Corn Yield Contest (NCYC).

Held annually, the NCYC allows participating growers to test their corn production skills and knowledge by competing for the highest yield in their category on both state and national levels. Winners receive national recognition in industry publications and other awards from sponsoring companies.

For the 2010 competition, NCYC winners who use both Avicta Complete Corn and Quilt Xcel on their submitted plots will be recognized with a donation in their honor to their local FFA chapter, or to an FFA chapter of their choice. Growers using Cruiser Extreme® 250 insecticide/fungicide plus Quilt Xcel also will be eligible. On the national level, winners will receive donations in their name as follows: first-place, $1000; second place, $500; and third place, $250. Additionally, each state winner using both products will be recognized with a $50 donation.

“Syngenta is committed to research and development efforts that result in new and emerging technologies to make corn production more successful,” said Mark Jirak, crop manager, Syngenta Seed Care. “With the introduction of Avicta Complete Corn and Quilt Xcel for the 2010 season, we are achieving that goal. And by recognizing the winners of the National Corn Yield Contest who use both of these brands with a donation to FFA, we are encouraging corn growers who are looking for high-performing brands that help maximize yield potential to try these new solutions.”

The National FFA Organization is a dynamic youth program that is a part of agricultural education programs at middle schools and high schools. FFA builds bright futures for students with leadership and personal development opportunities. Over 500,000 student members are engaged in a wide range of curriculum and FFA activities, leading to over 300 career opportunities in agriculture. FFA is structured on three levels: local, state and national. The organization has 7,429 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Avicta® Complete Corn nematicide/insecticide/fungicide seed treatment is a made up of separately registered products and combines Avicta Duo Corn, an Avicta brand seed treatment nematicide/insecticide premix, with an increased rate of Cruiser® seed treatment insecticide (0.50 mg ai/seed) and the industry’s most robust seed treatment fungicides, Apron XL®, Maxim® XL and Dynasty®. Providing corn growers with an innovative and convenient technology applied directly to the seed, the products in Avicta Complete Corn are designed to effectively safeguard corn seedlings against the most damaging early-season pests.
